Change the World by Nina Amir

I joined Nina Amir’s street team for her latest book, Change the World: One Book at a Time. I was curious about how a street team worked. She gave clear guidance and expectations for her team, which I appreciated. I learned a lot from her as far as marketing goes, but the lessons from the book itself were even more impactful. The target audience for Change the World is nonfiction writers with a cause or mission, but fiction writers can apply the guidance with equal success. Protagonists in fiction need to be dynamic. They need to change over the course of the book, like real people. Amir’s understanding of how people change, or why they don’t, can help fiction writers develop dynamic characters who right wrongs and resist evil in a plausible way.

I was so taken with her concrete actionable guidance that I invited her to present at Thrive: United for Democracy, an online conference about how we fix what’s broken in the US. I figured attendees and presenters alike just might have a book in them, and Amir’s support and encouragement could make the difference.

Amir discusses something that all writers need to be aware of- their platform. This website is a direct result of being reminded that an author platform is necessary. I knew this. You know this. Writing a Better Future existed, unpublished, with a lame name and a lousy interface for years until Change the World came along. I think I was finally ready to admit my WIP needed to be more than entertainment for me to be happy with it. When I read Change, this advice landed at the right time for me to act on it. I believe it will do the same for you.
